Moving Out
Please keep in mind the following when making plans and preparations to exit the house.
GAS AND ELECTRIC: Please call in gas and electric meter readings to RG&E, or you may have RG&E come out and read them for you. Request that the service be taken out of your name.
SECURITY DEPOSIT: As per Lease, within 30 days after you have vacated, return all keys and provide Landlord with a forwarding address. Landlord will return one check for entire security deposit (less an appropriate amount to cover cleaning and damage to house, if any). You will be provided with written receipt of any such cleaning/repair items.
GARBAGE REMOVAL/EMPTYING THE HOUSE: At end of lease and when you are moving out, you are entitled to fill the garbage tote provided with the house only. Any other garbage left behind, inside or outside the house, including at the curb, will be subject to a minimum $200 removal charge. To avoid this issue, it is strongly advised that you reduce and simplify move-out by disposing of things several weeks in advance. You are required to follow the City of Rochester rules for garbage pickup. For further information on City trash guidelines, call the City at (585) 428-5990.
TAPE (applied to picture rails): If you have used any sort of tape on the designated picture rail to secure pictures, cables, chords, etc., please remove any tape residue or adhesive left behind after removing tape. Denatured alcohol or paint thinner (mineral spirits) will work. Please do not fill any holes with spackle or other product. Small nail holes in picture rails is to be expected.
CLEANING: You should thoroughly clean the house from top to bottom, attic to basement, so that it is ready for a new group of tenants to move in. Cleaning should include not only large surfaces, but also detailing of small, hard to reach, and hard to see surfaces. Cleaning fees are typically $30 per hour plus materials. If everything is complete, no cleaning fee should be deducted from your deposit.
